Michael Brown’s Family to Announce Civil Lawsuit against Ferguson
On Wednesday, Michael Brown’s family announced that they will be filing a civil lawsuit against the city of Ferguson for the death of their son Michael Brown.
While addressing the media on Wednesday, the attorney of Brown’s family said that the family of Michael Brown will file a lawsuit for the wrongful death of their son come Thursday at a courthouse in St. Louis County.
Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager who was only 18-years old, was shot dead by Daren Wilson, a police officer in Fergusson, Missouri last year in August. Following his shooting there were widespread demonstrations which gripped the country. From Fergusson, Missouri itself to the nation’s capital and even New York, many people were protesting on the way that 18-year old Brown was killed. The protests brought up a discussion on how people of color are treated by authorities in the U.S. and, in particular, the city of Fergusson.
In November, a grand jury decided not to convict Wilson for any wrong doing. That said the Justice Department announced that it found evidence which corroborated Wilson’s account and, as a result, had to clear Officer Daren Wilson of any wrongdoing or federal civil rights violation.
A blistering review of Ferguson’s policing as well as court practices, which resulted into the police chief in Ferguson, the mayor and key judges in the city stepping down, was also released by the Justice Department.
Last month, the attorney of brown’s family stated that they intend on filing a civil suit against Fergusson over the shooting of their son.
